There are many ways to insulate an attic and one of the best and quickest ways is to use a type called Loose-Fill insulation. When installed properly this type of insulation provides an amazing amount of coverage for a fraction of the cost of other types of attic insulation.
Loose-Fill Insulation
Small particles of foam, fiber or other materials make up loose-fill insulation. Because of the small-particle makeup, this type of insulation can fill any space without disturbing other structures or materials. The capability to conform to any shape makes loose-fill very well suited for retrofitting and places where other insulation may not work.
Settling
As an effect of gravity, loose-fill can lose its installed insulation value, especially in attics. However, if the proper density is applied at the outset, the settling effect can be reduced. It is not a question of will the insulation settle or not, it is a question of by how much. Therefore, if you choose to get a larger amount of insulation in the beginning, the negative effects associated with settling will be reduced.
